Help & FAQ

Quick answers to get you writing, adding photos, and preparing your keepsake.

How do I get started?
Visit Questions and answer a prompt. You can edit later and add photos. Preview under Preview Book or Ready to print.
Can I speak my answers instead of typing?
Yes. Use Chrome (recommended) and allow microphone access. If not prompted, check browser mic permissions under Privacy & Security.
Do you check spelling and grammar?
Your browser’s spell check works everywhere. Optionally install Grammarly, Microsoft Editor, or LanguageTool. Free plans are usually enough.
Which browsers work best?
Chrome is recommended. Edge, Firefox, and Safari also work. Ensure spell check is enabled in browser language settings.
How do I add photos?
On applicable pages, use the upload control to attach images with captions. Keep file sizes modest for faster previews.
Can I edit answers later?
Yes. You can revisit any question and refine your response anytime—your book updates with your latest content.
How do I print my keepsake book?
Use Preview Book to review, then follow instructions at Ready to print.
Is my data private?
We take privacy seriously. See our Privacy Policy.
What if my microphone isn’t working?
Refresh, ensure your mic is selected, and verify permissions (Site Settings → Microphone). Try another browser/device if needed.
How do I contact support?
Can a family member help me write my journal?

Yes — you can invite family members as ghostwriters who can write answers and upload photos directly in your journal on your behalf. Everything they add appears under your name in your finished book.

To add a family member:

  1. Go to Family Members in your account.
  2. Enter the family member's email address and click Add Member.
  3. If they already have an account, access is granted immediately. If not, they will receive a branded invitation email explaining that they are helping with your journal — not creating their own.

You can remove a family member's access at any time from the same page. They will receive an email notifying them that their access has been removed.

Note: Once your journal has been submitted for printing, family members are automatically locked out and cannot make further edits.

How do I use the Our Lineage (Family Tree) feature?

The Our Lineage tool lets you build an interactive family tree that is automatically included as a dedicated chapter in your printed book.

Getting started:

  1. Click My Legacy in the navigation bar, then select Our Lineage.
  2. You will see yourself at the center. Click any person's card to edit their name, birth year, death year (if applicable), and birthplace.
  3. Use the Add Parent or Add Child buttons to extend your tree.
  4. Your tree saves automatically as you work.

In your printed book: The genealogy chart appears as a dedicated chapter before Chapter 1, along with the verse Proverbs 22:1. You can also export it as a standalone PDF at any time using the Export PDF button on the Our Lineage page.

Tip: For the best printed result, we recommend focusing on your direct lineage — your parents, grandparents, and their parents.

Follow each side of your family back through generations (for example, your father's line and your mother's line), including each person's spouse, but not the spouse's parents or extended relatives.

Expanding beyond this can make the tree too small to read clearly in the printed book.

Can AI help me write better answers?

Yes — two AI writing tools are available on every question page after you have written your first draft:

✦ Help me expand this — the AI reads what you have written and suggests three specific follow-up questions to draw out more detail — names, places, feelings, or what happened next. Each question comes with its own text box so you can answer it right there. When you click Add to my answer, your response is automatically added to your story using a natural lead-in statement.

✦ Polish my answer — the AI lightly improves the grammar, flow, and clarity of what you wrote while keeping every fact, name, and memory exactly as you shared it. It will never add new information or change your voice. A side-by-side comparison highlights what changed (red = removed, green = added) so you can review before accepting. You can choose to use the polished version, keep your original, or try again.

Note: Both tools only appear after you have typed an answer. They are not available on Legacy Stories or while your journal is locked for review.

How do I use the Life Map feature?

The Life Map is a visual timeline of your life's most meaningful events — organized by category and year. It can be included in your printed book or exported as a standalone PDF.

Getting started:

  1. Click My Legacy in the navigation bar, then select Life Map.
  2. Each row represents a category (e.g., Family, Faith, Career, Education). Click a row label to rename it.
  3. To add an event, click the + button on any row. Enter the event description and the year (or a year range for multi-year events).
  4. You can assign a color to each event to make the timeline easier to read at a glance.
  5. Add or remove rows to match the categories that are meaningful to your story.
  6. Your Life Map saves automatically.

Exporting: Use the Export PDF button to download a formatted version of your timeline. Your Life Map is also automatically included in your printed book.
